Soccer Kick-Off Rules and Procedures. Once it has been determined which team is going to start the match, it’s time for the game to commence and the kick-off to take place. Kick-off Rules: The ball must be stationary and start on the centre spot. All the players except the kicker must be in their half of the pitch.

Once the referee has given the signal for the kick-off, the ball is kicked in any direction. The ball is in play once it is kicked and clearly moves. The player taking the kick-off may not touch the ball again until it has been touched by another player. A goal may be scored directly from a kick-off against the opposing team.

The centre circle (where the game kicks off) is located at the midpoint of this line. In each corner of the pitch there is a flag post and these help judge whether a ball has gone out for a corner / goal kick or a throw in. At both ends of the pitch is a goal which is placed in the middle of the goal line.
